Mac's in the Community
Whether as a corporation or fixture in the community, Mac’s is in a position to impact numerous charitable causes
supporting youth, health, welfare and humanitarian causes. Mac’s donates approximately $3.8 million to charities
both provincially and nationally, in addition to being actively involved in neighborhoods through various activities.
CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION
Since 2002, Mac’s Convenience Stores in Ontario have been a strong
supporter of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. As a valued
partner, Mac’s contributes to the Foundation through an annual
golf tournament, and also displays CCFF coin boxes throughout
their stores across Ontario. Mac’s has raised $100,000 for the
Foundation through the Mac’s 2009 Golf Classic and coin box
collection program! Mac’s is also an official supplier of the
Foundation’s Shinerama campaign, and supporter of the Great
Strides™ walk. To date, Mac’s has contributed $850,000 to the fight
against cystic fibrosis!
FOREIGN WORKER PROGRAM
In support of bringing in new skills and knowledge to the
workforce, Mac’s and it’s Business Partners work directly with
Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC),
Service Canada(SC) and Citizen and Immigration Canada
(CIC) to ensure that the employment of foreign workers fills
Mac’s labour shortages but also supports Canada's
economic growth.
MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY
More than 30 years ago Mac’s began raising money for
Muscular Dystrophy which led a very special woman named
Shirley to think “I need to jump on board and do my part in
this.” Since 1995 Shirly has held an annual bake sale and in
support of raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon,
often having customers placing orders well in advance. Being
able to attend the Telethon is a very proud moment but she
wouldn’t be able to attend without the enormous support
of her family, community, Mac’s and their vendors.
Corporate Security
The implementation of DVR security systems in all our stores has
allowed Loss Prevention to implement a virtual monitoring room as
a proactive tool to allow the remote access to Mac’s stores through
the in store DVR security system.
Operation Freeze - Mac’s has provided over 10,000 Froster
coupons to police services across Ontario to "ticket young people"
caught doing random acts of kindness.
Crimestoppers - Mac’s partnering with Crime Stoppers has
benefited in solving many criminal incidents that have occurred
NEVADA TICKET PROGRAM
The greatest proportion of donations to charities comes out of the
Mac’s Nevada ticket sales program. Each Nevada lottery ticket sold
benefits a local charity. Based on a preliminary analysis of the lists
of Nevada charities provided, the majority of charities benefitting
from charitable contributions are youth oriented, such as Big
Brothers/Big Sisters associations, who received an estimated
$188,000 combined.
